Galeria Neon ASP Wrocław
Traugutta 19/21
Wrocław
We invite you to the opening reception on October 8th at 2:00 PM at the Neon Gallery, ASP Wroclaw.
The "From the East" exhibition at the Neon Gallery of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw is a testament to the vibrant academic exchange between Poland and China. In 2023, the Wroclaw School of Printmaking proudly presented its works at the Museum of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art in China. The exhibition received tremendous praise in Tianjin and is set to tour other prestigious academies and universities across China.
This second exhibition in Wroclaw, curated by Prof. Christopher Nowicki, brings the Chinese counterpart to Poland. Prof. Nowicki, who served as a Visiting Professor at Northeast Normal University from 2013 to 2019, has also taught and lectured at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art, Yanbian University, Shenyang University, Jilin Electric University, and many other renowned Chinese institutions. He is joined in curating the exhibition by Marta Kubiak, Head of the Serigraph Studio, and Marek Grzyb, Dean of Graphics and Media Arts at ASP Wroclaw.
The exhibition showcases the works of distinguished Chinese printmaking professors, along with select outstanding students. Among the featured artists are Wang Lianmin, former Dean of the Printmaking Department at Northeast Normal University (NENU) in Changchun; Fan Min, Head of the Printmaking Department at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Art (TAFA); Zhu Changsen, Head of the Printmaking Department at Yanbian University in Yanji; and Wen Mujiang, President of the Hunan Association of Printmakers. These artists, highly regarded both in China and internationally, are complemented by contributions from Liu Fu, Vice-Dean of Printmaking at NENU; Wang Mumu from TAFA; Han Xu Dong from Xi'an Academy of Fine Art; and Zhu Guanchu from NENU—all of whom completed their doctoral studies at the Wroclaw Academy and have since become prominent artists and educators in China.
With its long and esteemed tradition, Chinese printmaking is celebrated globally for its innovation and mastery. This exhibition provides an authentic glimpse into the current landscape of contemporary Chinese printmaking. Featuring 92 works from 76 acclaimed artists, the exhibition is a rare opportunity in Europe to experience such a rich collection of Chinese prints. It offers a unique chance for the academic community in Wroclaw and the Polish public to engage with some of the finest printmakers from China.
