Ceramics & Glass Conservation and Restoration Department
In the 2013/2014 academic year, a new degree programme was launched at the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass: Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art, and so, alongside the art academies in Warsaw, Kraków and university in Toruń, the E. Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław has become the fourth centre training conservators and restorers of works of art, but the only one specialising in the Conservation and Restoration of Ceramics, Glass and Stained Glass. The interdisciplinary programme combines knowledge from the arts, humanities and natural sciences. It offers the opportunity to study in a mentor-student relationship, as each student group consists of just six people. During the course, we organise professional practice. From the third year onwards, students take part in the European Erasmus+ scholarship programme.
Career prospects: the qualification enables graduates to run their own conservation and restoration practice or to work within a team of professionals engaged in the conservation and restoration of works of art. The scientific conservation of ceramics and glass is a field of knowledge requiring collaboration with specialists from many auxiliary sciences, and those practising this profession combine the talent of an artist with the skills of a ceramist and glassmaker. Only the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław offers the opportunity to gain such qualifications in this unique specialization. The lecturers are specialists in many scientific disciplines.
The process of developing the academic content for such a unique degree programme took many years, drawing on the research, teaching and artistic experience of academic staff who have long been associated with the Academy and its Faculty of Ceramics and Glass, as well as with the University of Wroclaw and the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology.
