LED BY:

Paweł Rzeźnik, PhD, ad.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of the Laboratory is research and didactic activity in the history of pottery and glass-making, including the study of objects subject to conservation in the Department. Lectures and conversations conducted in the studio introduce students to the issues of old production technology, product range, contexts of use and transformations of the mentioned fields of production in various cultural environments. The exercises conducted in the studio teach students the ability to analyze technological and stylistic features of ceramic and glass monuments, as well as work on descriptive and graphic documentation of such objects.

DESCRIPTION

The workshop presents a wide panorama of the history of pottery and glass-making in antiquity and the Middle Ages, based on the current state of research and publications: archaeological, archaeometric and catalogue studies of collections and monuments. Presentations at the lectures show representative products of ceramics and glass, typical for particular epochs and cultural circles. The content of the lectures also concerns the most important archaeological discoveries of the complexes of monuments, the most famous museum collections, as well as the profiles of leading researchers and the most important scientific publications relating to specific groups of monuments. A special attraction is the direct work on original ceramic and glass monuments during the documentation classes.
