Gest — Est is a project by Eugènia Agustí that explores the concept of the page and its shifts between the realm of the visual arts and experimental practices that connect art with writing through language.

In this context, a series of works in progress are presented, as linguistic models, relating to publications and artist’s books, experimental writing and drawing, in which the original object—the printed and editable form, as an idea or conception and its container—is examined from different angles.

In the ritual of writing by hand, the gaze turns inwards, in a supposed search for depth within the linearity of the act of drawing lines. Words are linked to the experience of drawing, which in this case extracts and exposes them, with the distance provided by the shift from a prior digital process—associated with information overload—to one that places us in what precedes the arrival of the text. Following this logic, rewriting, tracing and following a text whilst tracing a printed word—and therefore one that has already been written—would form part of this approach. A similar phenomenon occurs when repeating some of these words aloud. The words relate to one another, and what is written and can be heard naturally whilst reading is perceived and felt as something new.
