Biographical note
Christopher Nowicki was born in Toledo, Ohio, USA. In 1973 he graduated from the University of Toledo with a BFA Degree after studying at the prestigious Toledo Museum of Art. He received his MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1977. He received his Doctorate, and Professor Degrees at the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw, Poland. He has been a Visiting Professor at Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China and is an Honorary Professor at Yanbian University in Yanji, China. He is the recipient of many international awards and is a well- known lecturer and curator. He has also worked for over 35 years with Northwest Coast Native American and First Nation artists.

- 2024 Exhibition Curator - From the East, Neon Gallery Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design, Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Prints from eight universities and art academies in China. October 3 – 29, over 90 prints from 76 artists.

- 2020 Dolny Śląsk SILESIA award from Provincial Marshal’s Office for advancement of Silesian culture

Characteristic of the projects and research in which the PhD student is to be subsumed
The Doctoral candidate is expected to be able to synthesize theoretical and philosophical ideas, and explore and create their thesis work within the parameters set forth by the doctoral program and the promoter. A knowledge of basic drawing and compositional skills is necessary and a high level of technical expertise is expected in the candidate’s chosen field. Motivation is important and the candidate will be expected to explore the limits of their expertise and work to create new solutions to technical and aesthetic problems. They should be ready to cooperate and work with the Graphics Department faculty and students on communal projects such as exhibitions and symposiums when necessary. A willingness to explore other cultures and incorporate new ideas and philosophies into their work will be helpful.
Characteristic of didactic cooperation between the supervisor and the PhD student
The candidate will be able to design their own projects in either the screen process technique or copper plate mezzotint. Consultation with the promoter will be paramount in establishing the parameters for the research and development of the thesis work. The candidate will be expected to work with students in the classroom and be an asset to the studio teaching staff. Participation in group exhibitions and activities is also expected.
