Sztuka na miejscu
ul. Łaciarska 4
Wrocław
We would like to invite you to the opening of the solo exhibition of Saitip Majewska, doctoral student at the Doctoral School of the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, which will take place on 7 August at 5 pm at Sztuka na miejscu.
A solo exhibition by Saitip Majewska, a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. She places great emphasis on the essence of Thai culture and strives to convey a unique Thai identity in a global context. Therefore, there is a strong desire to pass on the art of Thai cultural traditions to other people of different ages, races and socio-cultural backgrounds in order to learn, share knowledge and understand the differences of nation and culture.
The artist aims to connect art with mind, body and time with a focus on self-healing. Art psychotherapy serves as the basis for her creations, allowing her to explore the concept of well-being in human psychology.
Artworks created as part of the research work for her doctoral will be presented. The works are made of paper and foil, cut and folded using special Thai techniques that create three-dimensional, translucent objects from flat sheets of paper and sheets with the reflection and lustre of foil. In this presentation there will be elements of larger multi-coloured installations. The artworks provide a medium for interaction and engagement, allowing individuals to experience their own cognition through the tangible senses, particularly touch. Saitip Majewska states of the exhibition:
“Precious memories in life are bright, colourful and transparent. These can be revealed in people's faces and emotions, which they cannot hide. People have periods in their lives that contain many experiences, with good and bad memories. But those good memories and positive feelings that still remain when I think about them make me smile and feel warm - I, as an artist who creates art, like to pass them on to give people positive energy in their lives for a moment.”
During the exhibition, allow the audiences to explore artworks by touching.
Curator: Associated Professor Małgorzata Kaczmarska, Department of Art Mediation.

Phuang Mahot: Thai paper cutting
Phuang Mahot, the art of making a bunch of "wreath making" is the bouquet bunch that hangs in various places at auspicious events, which is a craft, a cut of cellophane with a variety of colours that are used to decorate the grounds of events such as charity events, cultural traditions, weddings, etc. In the old days, the temple was considered the main place that was the centre of the community to carry out activities together. The bunches used to decorate the temple must be numerous. It can happen, there must be a lot of people helping each other. So people in the community have come together to help each other. This makes a bunch of Puang Mahot quickly and there's enough to meet the demand for a short time. This represents people working together. It shows love and harmony. The unity of the people in the community towards each other. Nowadays it is rare and has begun to disappear from Thai society, but there are still some in rural temples.
In the practice of community activity using craft as a form of art therapy which is a link between people and cultures, similar to the process of meditation, it adheres to the principle of integrating body and mind, which requires concentration and steadfastness in what actions are taken during this particular period of time, and the meditator is aware of what he or she is doing, which helps the practitioner to achieve peace, self-awareness or consciousness. During the workshop, the participants might have the effect of giving a broader view of the world. It can lead people to differences of perspective, thoughts and feelings or mood.
