The exhibition, “Intervascular / Interdisciplinary,” documents an artistic journey in which the artist explored the vessel as an abstract and material concept connecting humans, landscape, appearances and materials. In the exhibition, ceramics, architecture and landscape are intertwined in a composition of objects and prints, video works and documentation of artistic interventions in public space.

Doctoral Exhibition. Project carried out as part of the Doctoral School at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Art and Design in Wroclaw.

Supervisors: Bożena Sacharczuk, ac. prof. and ass. prof. Karolina Freino, PhD – supplementary supervisor
The public defense of the doctoral thesis will take place on 11.10.2024 at 12:00.

Intervascular / Miedzynaczyniowe, Karolina Sara Gardzilewicz

The artworks and dissertation contain a study of a vessel abstracted to a concept that combines sculptural, utilitarian and philosophical aspects contained in the idea of its form. It suggests the existence of a relationship between the identity of matter, form, space, and the human body. This approach has allowed for an investigation that includes artistic contemplation and speculation through realised artworks. Physical qualities such as form, matter and space have been explored through a practice-based study in which material identity and causality have been taken into account during the process. The study of the complex process of building vessels and objects from clay was based on the experience of working with ceramic matter, practicing on the potter's wheel and experiencing space as a context, home and source of materials. Through the prism of ceramics, a reflection on the nature of human coexistence with the natural environment was undertaken. The work includes references to the phenomenology of architecture, embodied knowledge, ecological anthropology and cognitive anthropology in the context of building with ceramics, dialogue with material and space, and dwelling as a bodily engagement with the environment. As a result, the work presents a polyphonic weave of research intuitions in the spirit of an enactivist and holistic view of reality.
