Room 304M
You are invited to a lecture on Wednesday, 21 October, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 304M.
Aleksejs Naumovs - Painter and Professor at the Art Academy of Latvia This lecture explores the interplay between painting and animation, focusing on the role of painterly thinking in director Roze Stiebra's animated feature film Rule of the Heart (Sirds likums), which received three Latvian National Film Awards (Lielais Kristaps).
Drawing on Aleksejs Naumovs's experience as the film's visual artist, the lecture examines how colour, brushwork, line, composition and light contribute to the visual dramaturgy of animation. It explores how a painterly landscape is transformed into a moving image, and how colour, space and the visual character of figures shape the film's artistic world. Particular attention is given to the film's fantastical environments, the winter garden, animal characters and the influence of the colourful architecture of Burano.
